A look back at the journey, the lessons we have learned, and what God may be preparing next.
We are slowly approaching our return to Canada. We have about one month left here, and over the past few days, I have found myself reflecting a lot. I look back and think about the road we have traveled and everything we have experienced since we arrived.
There is definitely a mix of emotions in all of this.
It feels like we are only now beginning to get used to life here. There are many differences: cultural differences, the climate, the way of life, and also the whole family aspect of being here with the children.
It has not always been easy, but through it all, I feel that God prepared us well for what we were meant to do.
When we look back on our journey, we know that God is the one who sent us here. Honestly, we would never have been able to come to Cambodia without Him. All of this has truly been a miracle.
We have often needed to remind ourselves of that: God is the one who sent us here.
The money for the plane tickets, the visas, Marie’s documents, and all the doors that opened—so many things came together in ways that we cannot really explain otherwise. The way Marie received her documents was a miracle for us.
An Adventure with God
This journey has truly been an adventure with God.
We have gone through a full range of emotions. We have learned a lot, but we have also been corrected and humbled.
We have learned that God’s ways can sometimes be difficult to understand. We need to be careful about how we judge others, their methods, or the way they serve God.
No one has the complete puzzle.
Each of us only has a small piece, and God is the one who puts all those pieces together.
We need to be patient. We need to remain firm in our convictions, but also stay open to the ways God may use other people, their methods, and their convictions—of course, within a biblical framework.
And all of that begins with us.
Our desire is to see multiplication. We want to see people who are active, but who are also strong in their faith and in their relationship with God.
We want to see disciples with a solid foundation, people who do not always depend on someone else in order to move forward, but who learn to develop an intimate relationship with God for themselves.
I believe a strong foundation has also been established in us for the future.
We truly hope that this is not the end of an adventure, but the beginning of something greater.
We dream big for Cambodia, but also for all of Southeast Asia.
I believe some things will need to be done differently. Sometimes we will need to step outside the traditional framework if we truly want to see revival here. I really believe we are close to something.
What the People Here Have Taught Us
We have grown attached to many people here.
Things have not always happened the way we expected, but one thing I have noticed in Cambodia is that actions speak very loudly.
People look at the way you live. They observe your actions, not only your words.
So we continue our little routine: visiting people in the neighborhood, spending time with them, praying for those who are open to it, creating connections, and building bridges.
I think a lot about the parents and children here.
Sometimes it does not take much to bring a little joy to a child. A small activity, a gift, or simply spending time together can make a real difference.
The resilience of the Cambodian people is also something that deeply impresses me.
This experience has caused us to question our priorities as Christians. Could we be doing more for others?
I truly hope that more people will one day be able to live through a similar experience, to see how life is in other places and to step outside their usual reality.
We were given that opportunity. We did not only watch it in a documentary or a film. We lived it.
And we thank God for that.
What Still Remains to Be Done
Even though our departure date is approaching, there is still a lot to do.
We have committed to teaching the children on Sundays. Many young children from the neighborhood come. We teach them English, but we have also developed a Bible program adapted for children.
We are trying to include a practical aspect as well, so that they do not only listen, but also learn how to put these things into practice. We bought several small rewards and gifts for them, and it brings us joy to encourage them in this way.
We are also continuing to record the testimonies of different people. Eventually, we would like to create something larger with these testimonies.
I am also working on a short film about the full Gospel. There are still very few resources available in Khmer, and this is something God has placed strongly on my heart.
Returning Home
We do not yet know exactly what is waiting for us when we return to Canada.
There are many people we miss and are really looking forward to seeing again. There are also certain foods we miss.
But after we have seen the people we love, and after we have eaten the food we have been missing, what will be waiting for us?
That is a question we are carrying right now.
Returning home will certainly be another transition. Homeschooling has been difficult here, and our family routine has been greatly disrupted.
So we ask you to pray for our family and for what comes next.
Our Prayer Requests
Please pray for the WeGo project, which is very close to my heart.
Please also pray for the short film I am working on and for the testimony project. Pray that God’s favor would be on these projects, and that the right people—those who believe in the vision—would become involved.
Please pray for Cambodia, that God would send workers into the harvest and that the full Gospel would be preached here.
Please also pray for the weeks we have left, that we would finish well what God has entrusted to us.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who has been part of this adventure, whether from near or far.
Your presence, your encouragement, your prayers, and the many ways you have walked alongside us have truly meant a lot.
Each person has contributed in their own way, and we are deeply grateful for all the support we have received throughout this journey.
It has been quite an adventure. We have learned a lot. We have been humbled. It has been difficult at times, but it has also been a lot of fun.
There are many things we will miss here.
But I think what we will miss most is the people.
The people… and Grab too.
